Inspiring people

Since I joined the meridian shiatsu therapist training program in Toulouse, France, back in 2005, a number of inspiring people crossed my path.

I was lucky to spend real-life time with some of them, attending their courses, teaming up in a partnership or benefiting from their therapy or coaching; others I connected with thru the phone, a webinar screen or my computer’s keyboard; some of them sparked me with their books or blogs; some of them have meanwhile chosen a different path and have left the educational or therapeutic scenes.

Some nourished my hunger for knowledge, others left a subtle impression by their way of being, their surprising look at life, their inner motivation for what they create in connection with people or inspired by nature. Others seem to have planted seeds that have ever since grown out to trees, deeply rooted in my work and living.

It is with care and gratitude that I’m building this particular web page.

Billeter-Etudes-sur-Tchouang-tseu

Jean-François Billeter

Switzerland

Jean-François Billeter is a sinologist, author and honorary professor at the University of Geneva. A summary of his work is available at the University’s website. Two of his books have been – and still are – of great influence to my study, practice and personal life: Études sur Tchouang-tseu (Editions Allia, 2006) and Leçons sur Tchouang-tseu (Editions Allia, 2002). Both works deal with “the” Tchouang-tseu (Zhuang Zhou, Zhuangzi), a collection of Chinese classic texts, in part attributed to the Chinese philosopher who lived in the 3rd century BC. By linking his sinological expertise to everyday life experiences, Billeter’s writing gives us a chance to build up a humble understanding of ancient philosophy.

Livre-Rochat-de-la-Vallee

Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallée

France

Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallée is a French sinologist, writer and lector. She studied philosophy, literature and classics at the Université Paris Nanterre and completed her Masters degrees in Classics (Lettres classiques) and Philosophy, followed by a DUT (Diplôme d’Études Approfondies) in Chinese. Following her meeting with Claude Larre in her 20s, they worked together on Chinese classical texts and offered lectures, seminars and conferences on Chinese classical thought. She co-founded the European School of Acupuncture in Paris in 1976 and co-authored several books with Claude Larre. Two books in particular have inspired me. Les mouvements du cœur – Psychologie des Chinois (Editions Desclée de Brouwer), based on Chapter 8 of the Ling Shu and La vie, la sagesse et la médecine, Su Wen, les onze premiers traités, the first 11 chapters of the Suwen, part of the Huangdi Neijing (Editions du Cerf). Elisabeth is convinced that “the study of the Chinese classics not only brings theoretical knowledge and an intellectual understanding of medicine, but also helps to deepen clinical practice and to better develop the art and attitude of the therapist”. She continues to translate, write and teach on the classical texts and Chinese medicine.
